Sidetracked Day provides a hyperpersonalized study platform for university students. The service adapts study plans, training exercises, and learning recommendations based on how users study, their progress, and their interaction with the platform. Features include account creation, PDF upload, AI-powered study plan generation, a study trainer, progress tracking, and personalized learner profiles.

1. What data we collect

We may collect the following personal data:

• Account data: username, email address, password
• User content: PDFs and other information you choose to upload
• Usage and technical data: IP address, device information, app version, crash logs, analytics events, timestamps, study session history, progress, streaks, quiz answers, and similar usage data
• Communication preferences: whether you want to receive emails or notifications

2. How we use your data

We use your data to:

• create and manage your account
• provide the app's study features
• process uploaded PDFs and generate study plans, study trainer content, progress insights, and learner profiles
• maintain security, prevent abuse, and fix technical issues
• improve the performance and reliability of our service
• send optional service emails or notifications if you choose to receive them

3. AI processing

If you upload a PDF, its contents may be processed by AI providers we use to provide the service. We currently use Google Gemini for this purpose. Uploaded content is used only to provide Sidetracked Day's features and not to sell your data.

4. Legal bases

Where GDPR applies, we process your data mainly because:

• it is necessary to provide our service to you
• it is necessary for our legitimate interests in operating, securing, and improving the service
• you have given consent where required, for example for optional emails or notifications

5. Service providers

We use trusted service providers that process data on our behalf, including:

• Hetzner for hosting
• Firebase for app infrastructure
• Google Gemini for AI-powered features
• RevenueCat for subscription and purchase infrastructure
• PostHog for product analytics - PostHog collects usage events, page views, and interaction data to help us understand how our service is used and improve it. Data is processed on PostHog's EU cloud infrastructure (Frankfurt, Germany). You can learn more at posthog.com/privacy.

These providers only receive data as needed to perform their services for us.

6. Data sharing

We do not sell your personal data.

We do not share personal data with universities or partners for their own purposes.

We may disclose data if required by law or to protect our legal rights, users, or the security of the service.

7. Storage and international processing

Our service is hosted primarily in Germany. However, some of our service providers may process certain data in other countries where this is necessary to operate the service. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for international data transfers.

8. Data retention

We keep your personal data while your account is active, unless a longer retention period is required by law or necessary for security, fraud prevention, or legal compliance.

9. Account deletion and your rights

You can request deletion of your account in the app.

You can also request deletion of your personal data by emailing info@sidetrackedday.com.

Depending on applicable law, you may also have the right to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, or to object to certain processing.

10. Sensitive data in uploaded documents

Our service is not intended for the upload of sensitive personal data. If you choose to upload documents containing sensitive information, you do so at your own discretion.

11. Cookies and similar technologies

We use cookies and similar browser storage technologies on our website for two purposes:

• Essential cookies - necessary to operate the service (for example, keeping you logged in or maintaining your session).
• Analytics cookies - set by PostHog to collect pseudonymous usage data such as page views, navigation paths, and feature interactions. This helps us understand how users interact with our website so we can improve it. The legal basis for this processing is our legitimate interest in operating and improving our service (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). PostHog data is retained for 1 year.

You can opt out of analytics tracking by enabling "Do Not Track" in your browser, or by contacting us at info@sidetrackedday.com.

12. Children

Sidetracked Day is intended for university students and is not directed to children under 13.

13. Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal data against unauthorized access, loss, misuse, or alteration.
